I had always been fascinated by the concept of in utero development or the idea that babies can hear-and-learn in the womb. I read everything i could about prenatal communication: that talking to your belly and exposing your not-yet-born to, say, music had benefits far beyond the obvious. It seemed logical then, that within his watery environs, my baby would be most susceptible to the sound of my heartbeat.
So there you have it: my semi-scientific explanation for why i love the product that i love.
Intrrrroducing:
The BabyPlus Prenatal Education System
What it is: 16 iterations of heartbeat like rhythms, each iteration being more complex in it’s composition.
How it works: you strap the BabyPlus around your belly. Press a button. Baby hears drumbeats (to sample sound click here). Stops automatically. Repeat.
Why it works: exposing baby to increasingly intricate patterns promotes learning and cognitive development. According to various studies prenataly ’stimulated’ babies are apt to cry less, sleep better, have longer attention spans, are less likely to be dyslexic, have higher IQ’s and so on.
I did it the first time. I put on the little recorder and I walked around with it, letting the beats work their magic in the background. I would use it at the office. While I watched TV. I traveled all over with it.
I didn’t miss a day. It wasn’t always easy and not everyone understood my reasons but I took the leap of faith. And, I recognize that my evidence is more anecdotal than empirical (apologies to you data buffs out there) but guess what? It worked like a charm.
Now I’m not saying baby boy is going to play football at Princeton, or your little honey is destined to be a concert pianist by age 5. This isn’t magic. What I am saying is that my sons (and I repeated the process for the second one) were amazing – not, great – amazing sleepers and incredibly unfussy baby beings. The sleep habits (and some of the credit goes to sleep training) fed into general happiness and contentment, both for babies and parents, and all was good in our world.
I’m not promising you the moon and the stars. Just saying: it worked really well for us. Had simple benefits that positively impacted the quality of our lives, and I would do it again. In a heartbeat.

So not fair……my son was a raving insominiac for the first two years of his life for no apparent reason. Drove me to the brink of insanity. Will remember this gadget if i ever dare to try for no 3. Although my husband has said that no. 3 will not be a product of his loins!!!
Sounds great! I know a few friends who have used it with their kids and LOVE it! Thanks and great job with the new blog!
